Teotihuacán is still an active excavation site, and the Tlajinga district, in the city's southern reaches, is one of its most revealing corners. Since 2019, archaeologists working there have uncovered patios with lime-plastered floors and mural fragments inside compounds once occupied by ordinary craftspeople, including a workshop devoted to producing fine obsidian blades, the everyday cutting tool of the entire city's economy. It's a very different picture of Teotihuacán than the one you get from the monumental pyramids alone — a real working city, not just a ceremonial stage.
Excavations elsewhere on the site have also turned up more difficult evidence: beneath the Feathered Serpent Pyramid in the Ciudadela, archaeologists have documented the remains of well over a hundred individuals, hands bound behind their backs, sacrificed before the pyramid's construction began — a sobering, factual part of the site's history that a real archaeologist-guide can put into proper context rather than gloss over. The VR component adds a modern layer on top of this, letting you visualize structures and layouts that, in places, survive today only as foundations.
