About This Tour

This is a private tour for your group only. Real stops include Taxco — a genuine colonial silver-mining city, still known for real silver craftsmanship today — and Cuernavaca, genuinely nicknamed 'the city of eternal spring' for its consistently mild climate.

Taxco's silver wealth is real and specific: the 18th-century Spaniard José de la Borda made his fortune from the town's mines, and when a new strike at the La Lajuela mine proved unusually rich, he used it to fund construction of the Church of Santa Prisca between 1751 and 1759 — a real building so lavish it reportedly came close to bankrupting him.

Santa Prisca is still considered one of the finest examples of Churrigueresque architecture in New Spain, and the silver-working tradition that grew up around mines like Borda's is genuinely still active in Taxco's workshops today.

Cuernavaca's own history predates the Spanish — under its Nahuatl name Cuauhnahuac, it was a real Tlahuica settlement where regional tribute was gathered before the conquest, and the site later became the location of Hernán Cortés's own palace, built using reused indigenous materials and labor. Its real, consistently mild year-round climate is exactly what earned the city its 'eternal spring' nickname.
