The genuinely strange detail at the Great Pyramid of Cholula is what sits on top of it: a 16th-century Spanish colonial church, built directly onto the pyramid's summit between 1574 and 1575 and consecrated in 1629, after the structure had become overgrown enough by then to be mistaken for a natural hill rather than a man-made one.
