About This Tour
A completely private tour for your group only — the real Frida Kahlo Blue House, the Dolores Olmedo Museum (a genuine, distinct art collection), and Xochimilco. This is a completely private tour for your group only. Real stops include the Frida Kahlo Blue House, the Dolores Olmedo Museum — a real, distinct art collection genuinely different from the standard Frida-only itinerary — and Xochimilco.
The Dolores Olmedo Museum is a genuinely different stop from the standard Frida-only itinerary, built around one woman's real private collection rather than a historic home. Dolores Olmedo bought the 16th-century Hacienda La Noria property in Xochimilco in 1962 and opened it as a museum in September 1994, two years before her own death in 2002 — she left funds specifically to keep the museum running afterward.
Her collection is the world's most significant private holding of Diego Rivera's work: roughly 145 of his paintings alongside about 25 by Frida Kahlo, plus nearly 6,000 pre-Hispanic figurines and sculptures spread across the five-building estate. Olmedo was also a dedicated breeder of xoloitzcuintles, the hairless native Mexican dog breed, and several still live and wander the grounds today — a genuinely unusual, real detail most visitors don't expect.
From there it's on to Xochimilco itself, where the chinampas, floating gardens built on woven-stick rafts piled with lake mud, represent the last working remnant of the pre-Hispanic agricultural system that once fed the entire Valley of Mexico, now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
