About This Tour

This is a private tour for your group only. Real stops include Cacaxtla — a genuine archaeological site known for its vividly preserved, real ancient murals — and the colonial city of Tlaxcala.
Cacaxtla's murals are genuinely among the best-preserved in all of Mesoamerica, painted roughly between 600 and 800 AD by the Olmeca-Xicalanca people — a population whose artwork, unusually, draws heavily on Maya iconography despite the site sitting hundreds of kilometers from Maya territory.
The most striking is the real Battle Mural, nearly 26 meters long and believed to predate 700 AD, split across a staircase to show two distinct groups of warriors in combat — one art historian's reading identifies them as Maya-styled Jaguar Warriors facing more 'Mexicanized' Eagle Warriors from the central highlands, though exactly which historical conflict it depicts is still debated among archaeologists.
Tlaxcala itself is a genuinely early Spanish colonial foundation, laid out not long after the conquest — sources place its formal founding somewhere between 1522 and 1525 — and it briefly held real religious significance as the seat of one of the first bishoprics in the Americas, before that seat moved to nearby Puebla in 1539.
