Cartagena is best known for its colonial architecture, but it also has a working contemporary art scene, with galleries operating in restored colonial houses and artists using the city's colour and history as material. Fernando Botero's bronze 'Gertrudis' in Plaza Santo Domingo, installed in 2000, is the most famous public sculpture, but the living scene goes well beyond it.
