A private, gentler walking tour into remote wilderness just outside Canmore, using real annual wildlife reports to pick the best local spots for spotting deer, elk, and other Rocky Mountain wildlife.
This is a private tour — only your group will participate, up to 6 guests. About This Tour
A private, gentler walking tour into remote wilderness just outside Canmore, using real annual wildlife reports to pick the best local spots for spotting deer, elk, and other Rocky Mountain wildlife. This is a private tour — only your group will participate, up to 6 guests. Your certified guide drives you to a remote Bow Valley trailhead away from other tourists and leads a real family-friendly walk (suitable for kids 8 and up), sharing wildlife, plant, and local history knowledge along the way. This is a shorter, gentler companion to Voyzo's Canmore Bear Country Hiking Tour, built for families or travelers who want an easier walk rather than a longer, more active hike.
Canmore began as a railway town in the fall of 1883, the first divisional point for the Canadian Pacific Railway west of Calgary, and when the railway pulled out its facilities in 1898 it was coal mining that kept the settlement alive. The last mine shut in 1979. A gentle walk in the valley today is also a walk through that layered history, and your guide can point out how the landscape has recovered.
The Bow Valley is also one of the more closely studied wildlife corridors in the Rockies, used by elk, deer, wolves, cougars and both bear species. A walk that is built from recent local wildlife reports, as this one is, is a way of reading that corridor in real time rather than guessing where animals might be.
Because the pace is easy and the distance short, it suits families who want to learn how to read a mountain forest: tracks in mud, browse lines on shrubs, the difference between a deer path and a bear path. Sightings are never guaranteed, but the signs of life are everywhere once you know what to look for.
