Pico de Loro — literally "Parrot Peak" in Spanish — is one of the signature summits of the Farallones de Cali, reaching roughly 2,832 meters above sea level (a few sources round this up to around 2,860 meters). Its name comes from the distinctive, beak-like shape of the rock formation at its summit, which is visible from parts of Cali on a clear day and has made it one of the most recognizable peaks on the city's skyline of mountains.
Reaching the top typically takes three to four hours of steep, sustained climbing, with an elevation gain of more than 1,250 meters from the trailhead — a genuinely strenuous ascent that demands real fitness, not just a casual walk. The reward is a panoramic view back over Cali and the wider sweep of the Farallones range, a perspective on the city's own mountain backdrop that very few visitors — and relatively few residents — ever actually earn on foot.
The trail itself runs through the same protected cliffs and cloud forest that make the Farallones de Cali National Natural Park one of the richest conservation areas in southwestern Colombia, which is why local guides use the hike as a chance to talk through the ecology and ongoing conservation work tied to this specific peak and its surrounding cliffs, alongside the trek itself.
