Bryce Canyon is roughly 270 miles from Salt Lake City by the more common route, with some road routes running closer to 340 miles, so this is a genuinely long day even though a private driver does the work. Expect a drive of several hours each way, which is why an early start is typical.
The reward is the amphitheater itself, set at about 8,000 to 9,100 feet on the eastern edge of the Paunsaugunt Plateau. The park holds the largest concentration of hoodoos on Earth, and popular viewpoints such as Sunrise Point, Sunset Point, Inspiration Point and Bryce Point sit along an 18-mile Rim Drive.
