This day pairs two very different kinds of rock scenery. Bryce is about spires standing in open amphitheaters; slot canyons are narrow passages cut by flash floods, and the best-known near Bryce lie in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument along the Hole-in-the-Rock Road, about 26 miles south of the town of Escalante.
Peek-a-Boo and Spooky Gulch are each only about a quarter mile long, but Spooky Gulch narrows to roughly 12 inches wide in places, so a tight squeeze with a day pack is part of the experience. The classic loop linking them with Dry Fork runs about 3.5 miles. A 4x4 helps on the unpaved access road, which is why transport is included. Slot canyons are dangerous in rain, and a guide will check the forecast before committing.
