The National Corvette Museum building was completed in 1994 and sits about a quarter of a mile from the GM Bowling Green Assembly Plant, which has built every Corvette for nearly four decades.
At about 5:40 a.m. on February 12, 2014, a sinkhole roughly 40 feet across and 25 to 30 feet deep opened inside the museum's Skydome area, damaging eight cars. Six belonged to the museum and two were on loan from General Motors. No one was inside and no injuries were reported.
The drive from Nashville is about an hour and a half each way, which fits a six to seven hour day with time for the museum and a look at the plant, subject to what is open that day.
