About This Tour

In contrast to bus tours, this individual sightseeing taxi tour lets you stop almost anywhere — for a photo shoot, a snack, or a longer look at Berlin Cathedral, Hackesche Höfe, the Brandenburg Gate, Gendarmenmarkt, Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, or KaDeWe. See both former City East and City West in a real Berlin luxury taxi SUV, stopping wherever interests you rather than following a fixed bus-tour route.

Nowhere in Berlin makes the East-West architectural split clearer than the contrast this tour is built around. Karl-Marx-Allee, on the former East side, was built between 1952 and 1960 as a showcase boulevard in the Soviet-influenced Socialist Classicist style — monumental, symmetrical, designed to project confidence in a new political system. It was called Stalinallee until 1961, when a 4.8-meter bronze statue of Stalin was torn down and the street renamed.

West Berlin's postwar rebuilding took a different path, visible at stops like the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church — where the war-damaged original tower was deliberately left standing as a ruin and memorial, with a new church built alongside it in the early 1960s — and the KaDeWe department store, rebuilt as a symbol of West Berlin's consumer confidence.

Riding in a real Berlin luxury taxi SUV rather than following a fixed bus route means you can stop for as long as you like at whichever of these contrasts — Berlin Cathedral, Hackesche Höfe, Gendarmenmarkt, or anywhere else along the way — actually grabs you.
