Tiergarten began life as the royal hunting grounds of the Prussian electors before being landscaped into the park Berliners use today — at over 200 hectares, it's the city's largest and arguably most-loved green space, and the walking stretch here lets you stretch your legs between drives.
From there, the route follows Unter den Linden, the boulevard named for the lime trees first planted along it in the 17th century to link the royal palace with the hunting grounds, straight toward the Brandenburg Gate — completed in 1791 and still Berlin's single most photographed monument.
The short walk also takes in a stretch of the Berlin Wall covered in street art and a look at the Reichstag, whose glass dome — added by architect Norman Foster between 1995 and 1999 — lets daylight pour into the parliamentary chamber below, a deliberate echo of the transparency reunified Germany wanted after decades of division.
