About This Tour

Your professional driver takes you door-to-door through East and West Berlin, from Checkpoint Charlie to Potsdamer Platz, sharing the stories behind the city's unique history. A comprehensive private car tour through both former East and West Berlin, with your driver sharing the stories that shaped the divided city.

Potsdamer Platz was one of Europe's busiest squares in the 1920s, reduced to rubble by Allied bombing in 1943, and then flattened outright as a Cold War no-man's-land once the Wall went up in 1961 — it sat empty for decades before reconstruction began in 1994, eventually becoming, for a time, the largest building site in Europe.

Checkpoint Charlie, the other anchor of this route, takes its name not from a person but from the NATO phonetic alphabet: it was the third Allied crossing point into the city, after Checkpoints Alpha and Bravo outside Berlin, and for decades it was the single most-watched border crossing of the Cold War.

Your driver traces a comprehensive line between these two former flashpoints of the divided city, filling in the stories of East and West Berlin along the way — useful context whether this is your first visit to Berlin or your fifth.
