A quick clarification worth knowing before you book: Berlin's main Pergamon Museum, on Museum Island, has been fully closed since October 2023 for a major, multi-year renovation — the first section (the Pergamon Altar hall and the Museum of Islamic Art) isn't due to reopen until mid-2027, with full completion not expected until 2037. This tour doesn't visit that closed building.
Instead, it's built around the Pergamon Museum's own stand-in exhibition, housed in a separate temporary building a short walk away at Am Kupfergraben 2, right across the water from Museum Island. Inside, 'PERGAMON. Masterpieces from the Ancient Metropolis' pairs real highlights from the Collection of Classical Antiquities with artist Yadegar Asisi's enormous 360-degree panorama, which recreates the ancient Greek city of Pergamon (in what's now western Turkey) as it looked around 129 AD, under Roman emperor Hadrian.
Your guide walks you through the panorama's scenes — the civic life, religion, and architecture of a real Roman-era Greek metropolis — and the companion gallery of genuine ancient artifacts, so the visit still delivers a real, substantial introduction to classical antiquity even with the main museum building off-limits.
Longer tour options extend the day with a visit to nearby Berlin Cathedral on Museum Island itself, letting you pair the Pergamon panorama with another real landmark in the same part of the city.
