Xunantunich is reached from San José Succotz by a free hand-cranked ferry across the Mopan River, followed by about a mile's walk to the site. Its main pyramid, El Castillo, stands about 40 metres tall and gives a 360-degree view over the jungle and toward Guatemala.
Nohoch Che'en Caves Branch, the cave tubing stop, is a network of limestone caves where the Maya performed rituals, believing them to be entrances to Xibalba. Floating through gives a sense of why caves held such significance.
