The road to Villa La Angostura keeps you beside Nahuel Huapi Lake for much of the way, and the lake is larger than it looks from the shore. It covers about 530 km² and has a maximum measured depth of around 464 m (as of a 2007 survey), with an average depth near 157 m.
The lake sits inside Nahuel Huapi National Park, which began as Parque Nacional del Sud in 1922 and was reconfigured in 1934; it is regarded as Argentina's oldest national park. That protected status is a big reason the lakeshore here is forest rather than development.
Because this is a flexible, guide-led day, the pace is yours: more time on a trail at Bahía Manzano, or more time in town, depending on the group.
