The stop most people photograph on this loop is the Llao Llao Hotel, designed by architect Alejandro Bustillo and opened to the public on 9 January 1938, built from cypress logs with a larch-shingle roof in a Canadian-lodge style. A fire destroyed it completely on 26 October 1939, and it reopened on 15 December 1940, so the building you see is a rebuild rather than the original.
Bustillo also designed the little San Eduardo Chapel nearby, a neo-Gothic church of local stone and cypress logs completed in 1938. It sits close to Puerto Pañuelo, the lake port that was part of why this peninsula was chosen for the hotel in the first place.
Cerro Campanario sits along Avenida Bustillo roughly 17 km from the city centre. The chairlift ride to the top takes about seven minutes through tree tunnels, and the summit is the optional extra on this tour. Visibility changes with weather, so the guide decides on the day whether the ascent is worth it.
