Cerro Catedral is described as the largest ski resort in South America, with more than 120 km of runs and over 30 lifts, and it is the only one there with a full-service base village. Published figures for its summit height vary slightly between sources, from about 2,100 to 2,180 m, with a base around 1,030 m.
The mountain takes its name from the granite spires on its summit ridge, which resemble a Gothic cathedral. Outside the ski season the lifts keep running for sightseers, and the views over Bariloche and Nahuel Huapi are the main draw.
The base village gives you a place to eat and shop before the drive back to the city.
