Mainly because of how it's funded. Since it's paid for entirely through private donations and ticket sales rather than government money, progress has always depended on available funds rather than a fixed schedule, including a near-total halt during the Spanish Civil War in the 1930s and a major pandemic-era slowdown.
Once your quote is accepted, we'll confirm your exact pickup time, vehicle, and driver details by email ahead of your tour date.

About This Tour

Construction on the Sagrada Família began in 1882 under architect Francisco de Paula del Villar, who resigned barely a year in over creative disagreements. Antoni Gaudí took over the project in 1883, at just 31 years old, and transformed del Villar's conventional neo-Gothic plan into the wildly original basilica standing today. Gaudí devoted the last years of his life almost entirely to the project, reportedly living on-site in a small workshop, and continued directing construction until his death in 1926.
Because Gaudí left behind models, drawings, and plaster casts rather than finished blueprints for most of the remaining work, construction has continued in fits and starts for over 140 years, interrupted by the Spanish Civil War (when the project's workshop and many of Gaudí's original models were destroyed) and, more recently, by a sharp pandemic-era funding gap that closed the site for months. The project has long targeted 2026 — the centenary of Gaudí's death — for completing the main central tower, though the decorative finishing work on the façades is expected to continue well beyond that.
With priority entrance booked ahead of time for your group, you skip the general queue, which can run well over an hour in peak season, and go straight into what is, after more than a century of work, still an active construction site and a living monument — scaffolding, cranes, and all.
