Frequently Asked Questions

A real, genuinely distinct Catalan wine appellation with its own terroir.
Yes, for your group only.
Priorat's vineyards grow in a dark, fissured slate called llicorella, with as little as 10 to 15 centimetres of topsoil before solid rock underneath. That poor, mineral-heavy soil is a genuinely different terroir from the richer soils found elsewhere in Catalonia, and it's a major reason Priorat wines taste the way they do.
Once your quote is accepted, we'll confirm your exact pickup time, vehicle, and driver details by email ahead of your tour date.

About This Tour

This is a private tour for your group only, to the real Priorat DOQ — a genuine, distinct wine region from Penedès. Real tastings at two cellars and a multi-course lunch are included.

Priorat's defining feature is underfoot, not in the glass: a dark, fissured slate called llicorella, shot through with quartz veining, that leaves most vineyards here with barely 10 to 15 centimetres of topsoil before vine roots hit solid rock. That poor, mineral-heavy soil is exactly why Priorat wines taste so different from Penedès's — a genuinely different terroir, less than an hour's drive away from an entirely different wine identity.

Priorat holds Spain's top wine classification, DOQ (Denominació d'Origen Qualificada) — and remarkably, it's one of only two regions in the entire country to have it, alongside Rioja. That status was never automatic or purely historical: Priorat nearly disappeared as a working wine region altogether before a small group of winemakers, led by Álvaro Palacios and René Barbier, revived it starting in the 1980s, with the resulting wines gaining genuine international attention through the 1990s.

Visiting two working cellars here means seeing that revival firsthand rather than reading about it afterward — Priorat is still a small, intensely rural wine region, and many of its current producers are the same families, or direct successors of the families, who helped bring it back from the brink in the first place.
