Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, for your group only.
Real Park Güell, Sagrada Família, Montjuïc, and the Gothic Quarter.
Trencadís is Catalan for "broken" — a mosaic technique Gaudí's workshop developed using smashed ceramic tile and broken crockery set into cement, which let the mosaic wrap around curved surfaces that whole tiles couldn't cover. It's used throughout Park Güell and, more sparingly, on the Sagrada Família.

About This Tour

One technique ties together almost everything Gaudí built in Barcelona, and you'll see it at both of this full day's headline stops: trencadís, Catalan for "broken." Rather than cutting ceramic tile to fit a curved surface, Gaudí's workshop smashed it into irregular shards and set the fragments directly into cement, letting the mosaic bend around domes, benches, chimneys, and sculptures without a whole tile ever having to crack to fit.

Much of the material was never new. Gaudí's team collected discarded tile offcuts from a ceramics factory in nearby Esplugues de Llobregat, along with broken crockery and plates from other manufacturers, turning what would otherwise have been waste into some of the most photographed surfaces in the city. The dragon fountain and the long serpentine bench at Park Güell are the best-known examples of the technique; it also appears, in more restrained form, worked into details of the Sagrada Família.

This private 8-hour day links both Gaudí landmarks with real additional stops at Montjuïc and the Gothic Quarter, with hotel pickup included — enough time to see trencadís at both its most playful, at Park Güell, and its most monumental, at the Sagrada Família, without rushing between the two.
