About This Tour
A private tour for your group only, with real priority skip-the-line access to the genuine Park Güell. This is a private tour for your group only, with real, genuine priority skip-the-line access to Park Güell.
Park Güell wasn't originally planned as a park at all. In 1900, the industrialist Eusebi Güell commissioned Gaudí to design an upscale, gated housing estate on this hillside — 60 triangular plots linked by paths, staircases, and viaducts, complete with running water and electric lighting, a real luxury at the time.
The development never took off. Strict building rules meant only a fraction of the land could actually be built on, the plots were priced high, and the site sat far enough from central Barcelona that it had poor transport links, which discouraged most would-be buyers. Of the 60 houses planned, only two were ever built: one bought by a lawyer friend of Güell's, and a show house that Gaudí himself ended up living in with his father and niece from 1906 to 1925. After Güell died in 1914, the project was abandoned outright, and in 1926 the City of Barcelona bought the land and reopened it as the public park it is today.
With priority, skip-the-line access booked for your group, you'll walk the same terraces, staircases, and the famous mosaic-covered serpentine bench that were originally built to sell real estate to Barcelona's wealthy — and that instead became one of the city's most visited public spaces.
