A real, genuine Gaudí-designed chapel in an industrial colony.
Gaudí used it as a real structural testing ground, building an upside-down hanging model of weighted strings to work out the parabolic arches and leaning columns he later scaled up dramatically at the Sagrada Família. He reportedly said that if finished, the colony church would have stood as a working model of the Sagrada Família itself.

About This Tour
A private tour for your group only, to Gaudí's genuine lesser-known works — Colonia Güell, Casa Vicens, and Bellesguard. This is a private tour for your group only. Real, genuinely lesser-visited Gaudí works include Colonia Güell, Casa Vicens, and Bellesguard — a real gap-filler beyond the tourist-core sites.
The crypt at Colònia Güell is the real missing link in understanding how Gaudí actually worked out the engineering behind the Sagrada Família. Eusebi Güell commissioned Gaudí in 1898 to design a church for the workers' textile colony he'd built south of Barcelona; construction on the crypt didn't begin until 1908 and stopped for good in 1914, when the Güell family cut off funding. Only the crypt — the lower level of what would have been a much larger church — was ever finished.
To design it, Gaudí built an upside-down scale model out of weighted strings and fabric, letting gravity trace out the exact curves a stable arch or vault needed to take, then flipped the resulting shape right-side up to find his structural forms. That method let him work out the leaning columns, parabolic arches, and load-bearing geometry he would later scale up dramatically at the Sagrada Família. Gaudí reportedly said that had the colony church been finished, it would have stood as a working model of the Sagrada Família itself.
This private day trip pairs the real, lesser-visited crypt with two more of Gaudí's early and often-overlooked works — Casa Vicens and Bellesguard — genuine stops that most first-time visitors to Barcelona never make it to.
