North Georgia wine is a young scene. The Dahlonega Plateau AVA, established in 2018, is the state's first appellation lying entirely within Georgia and covers 133 square miles; grapes grown nearby include Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Norton and Touriga Nacional. The nearby Upper Hiwassee Highlands AVA (2014) also spans Georgia and North Carolina.
Yonah Mountain Vineyards, near Cleveland, has about 20 acres of vines at the base of Yonah Mountain on a former farm bought by the Miller family in 2005. Serenity Cellars in Cleveland leans into Italian varieties, and Creekstone Winery is in Sautee Nacoochee. Your private route is built around your group's tastes.
