About This Tour

A private guided day tour to Dry Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and Looking Glass Falls, passing through Cullasaja River Gorge and the mountain town of Highlands. This private tour heads into the North Carolina highlands to see real, named waterfalls — Dry Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and Looking Glass Falls — while passing through the dramatic Cullasaja River Gorge and the mountain towns of Highlands and Sylva. This is a private vehicle and guide for your own group.

The route takes you through the Cullasaja River Gorge, a 7.5-mile stretch of US 64 between Franklin and Highlands that is a designated scenic byway. The road squeezes alongside the river and passes several waterfalls, including Cullasaja Falls, whose height is disputed (commonly given as 200 to 250 feet).

Bridal Veil Falls drops about 120 feet and has traditionally let drivers pass under the curtain of water on an old section of highway, though access conditions can change, so check with your guide. Dry Falls, about 75 feet, is named because a trail lets you walk behind the curtain and stay relatively dry, though spray can still reach you when the water is high.

Highlands itself sits at about 4,118 feet and is among the highest incorporated towns east of the Mississippi, which explains its cool summers. Looking Glass Falls, a roughly 60-foot cascade visible from US 276, rounds out the day.
