Devils Garden, the destination for much of this full-day private tour, holds the park's most extensive trail network, and the real distances vary enormously depending on how far you go. The easy spur to Tunnel Arch and Pine Tree Arch is just half a mile round trip from the main trail — Pine Tree Arch is named for the single pine tree growing directly beneath its opening — while reaching Private Arch requires continuing onto the primitive trail extension, and the loop out to the Dark Angel sandstone spire runs about 4.7 miles round trip. The trail's early stretch also passes Landscape Arch, widely regarded as the longest natural rock span on Earth at roughly 290 feet, though only 6 feet thick at its narrowest point — thin enough that a 73-foot slab fell from its underside in 1991, caught on video by a tourist standing nearby at the time.
Balanced Rock, another real stop on this tour, is one of the park's more improbable-looking formations: a boulder the size of three school buses, weighing roughly as much as an icebreaker ship, perched atop a 73-foot pedestal for a total height of about 128 feet. It once had a smaller companion nicknamed "Chip Off the Old Block" standing nearby, which finally toppled during the winter of 1975–76 — a reminder that every balanced boulder and fin in this park is, geologically speaking, temporary.
Double Arch, also on the itinerary, is a genuinely different kind of formation from the fin-and-spire erosion seen at Devils Garden and Balanced Rock: it's a pothole arch, carved from above as rainwater slowly deepened a depression until it broke through to an alcove below. Its larger opening spans 148 feet with a 104-foot ceiling, the tallest opening in the entire park. Covering formations this geologically varied — a record-length span, a boulder the size of a building, and a water-carved pothole arch — in one private day is a real test of pacing that a full-day format, rather than a shorter visit, is built to handle.
