About This Tour

A private tour for your group only, in a real electric car, genuinely relaxed 4-5 hour format. This is a private tour for your group only, in a genuine electric car — a real, more relaxed-paced format to Zaanse Schans and Dutch villages.

The windmills preserved at Zaanse Schans represent what's often described as one of the world's first real industrial zones. By the mid-1600s, several hundred windmills — some estimates put the number near 900 at the region's 17th-century peak — lined the banks of the Zaan river, not grinding grain but running an early industrial economy: sawing imported timber, pressing oil from seeds, grinding pigments for paint, and processing hemp, long before steam power existed anywhere. A local resident, Cornelis Corneliszoon van Uitgeest, is credited with inventing the crankshaft mechanism in 1594 that made mechanized sawmilling with a windmill possible in the first place — a genuinely significant, if little-known, piece of engineering history.

Covering this route by electric car rather than a standard coach or minibus keeps the pace deliberately unhurried and the group small, which suits a route built around slower stops — watching a working mill in motion, a cheese or clog demonstration, wandering a Dutch village at your own speed — rather than a tightly scheduled coach itinerary.

It's a quieter, lower-impact way to reach the same real windmill-country landmarks as a larger group tour, just without sharing the vehicle or the schedule with anyone outside your own party.
