Amsterdam takes its bicycle infrastructure seriously enough to have recently built underground parking for it: in January 2023 the city opened Stationsplein, a bike garage built beneath the water next to Centraal Station that can hold up to 7,000 bikes on its own, with a second facility bringing combined capacity to roughly 11,000 - cyclists reach it via conveyor belts descending about nine meters below street level.
