About This Tour

A private tour for your group only, in a real Jaguar, genuine lesser-known villages — Monnickendam, Durgerdam, Katwoude, Zuiderwoude. This is a private tour for your group only, in a genuine Jaguar. Real stops reach lesser-known villages — Monnickendam, Durgerdam, Katwoude, and Zuiderwoude — beyond the standard windmill-country route.

The villages on this route sit in Waterland, the low-lying stretch of farmland and small lakes immediately north of Amsterdam, and each has its own real history rather than being generic "countryside" filler. Monnickendam was founded by monks in the 13th century — the name literally means "monk's dam" — and grew into a genuinely important trading port once it had open water access to the Zuiderzee, with cheese production, fish smoking and shipbuilding driving its wealth through the 16th century before it settled back into the small fishing town it is today.

Durgerdam, a dike village of small wooden houses overlooking what's now the IJmeer, shares Waterland's long history of recurring floods and water management, while Katwoude and Zuiderwoude are smaller farming communities in the same low-lying polder landscape — exactly the kind of places a standard windmill-and-cheese day trip usually drives past rather than stops in.

Covering this route in a Jaguar rather than a van or minibus is a genuine point of difference for a half-day countryside drive, and because the tour is private, there's real flexibility to linger longer in whichever of these villages your group finds most interesting.
