About This Tour

A private tour for your group only, a real full-day round trip to genuine Bruges, Belgium. This is a private tour for your group only. A real full-day round trip reaches genuine Bruges, Belgium's real medieval canal city.

Bruges owes its entire medieval fortune to a single storm. In 1134, a major storm surge carved out the natural Zwin channel, suddenly giving the inland city direct access to the North Sea and turning it into a genuine international seaport almost overnight. By the 13th to 15th centuries, Bruges had grown into one of the four biggest trading hubs of the Hanseatic League, built on cloth production and the presence of a major Hanseatic warehouse — a city wealthy enough, in fact, to leave behind the word 'bourse' for stock exchange, after merchants gathered to trade in the square outside the house of the noble Van der Beurse family.

That same medieval wealth is why Bruges' center looks the way it does today: a dense concentration of brick Gothic architecture, the style that defines much of northern Europe and the Baltic, preserved almost intact along its real network of canals. UNESCO recognized the historic center as a World Heritage Site in 2000, citing it as an outstanding example of a medieval settlement that has survived with its urban fabric genuinely intact rather than reconstructed.

Reaching it from Amsterdam is a real, full cross-border journey each way, not a quick side trip — which is exactly why this particular format is built around a comfortable, private long-distance vehicle for the whole 10-to-11-hour round trip, rather than trying to compress the day into something shorter and more rushed.
