Peru's regions sit far apart — Lima to Cusco is a short flight, while Cusco to Machu Picchu requires a train (no road reaches Aguas Calientes) — so most private routes combine driving, a Machu Picchu train ticket, and sometimes a domestic flight.
Cusco sits at about 3,400m and Lake Titicaca higher still — altitude sickness is common in the first day or two; many itineraries build in an acclimatization day or start in lower-altitude Lima before heading to the highlands.
Andean days can be warm in the sun and cold once it sets, so layers matter even in the dry season; the Amazon and coastal desert legs (if included) need very different packing — humidity gear versus sun protection.
