Elevation changes everything — the Kathmandu Valley is mild, Chitwan's lowlands are hot and humid, and trekking altitudes can be near-freezing even in the high trekking seasons, so layering is essential.
Nepal uses the Nepalese rupee. Tipping trekking guides and porters is customary and, for many, a meaningful part of their income.
Some high-altitude routes like Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Base Camp carry real altitude-sickness risk — proper acclimatization days aren't optional, regardless of how fit a trekker is.
Upper Mustang and a handful of other regions require a special, separately priced permit beyond the standard trekking permits — worth confirming for any route beyond the classic Everest, Annapurna or Langtang trails.
